The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different types of exercise on cognitive function in older adults. A total of 120 participants aged 65 to 85 years were recruited and randomly assigned to one of three groups: aerobic exercise, resistance training, or a control group. The aerobic exercise group performed moderate-intensity treadmill walking for 45 minutes, three times per week, for 12 weeks. The resistance training group also showed improvements in memory and executive function, but to a lesser extent than the aerobic exercise group. The control group did not exhibit any significant changes in cognitive function over the course of the study.

These findings suggest that aerobic exercise may be particularly beneficial for improving certain aspects of cognitive function in older adults, such as processing speed and attention, which are often impaired with age. The resistance training group also experienced some cognitive benefits, but to a lesser degree than the aerobic exercise group. In conclusion, this study provides evidence that regular participation in aerobic exercise and, to a lesser extent, resistance training, can have a positive impact on cognitive function in older adults. Future research should explore the long-term effects of these exercise modalities on cognitive function and the underlying neural mechanisms.
